# How to change your Facebook profile picture

To change your profile picture on Facebook, open your profile, click the Camera icon on your picture, choose a photo and save. Page and temporary steps too.

*Guides · Published 2026-11-06*

To change your profile picture on Facebook, click your profile picture in the top right, click your profile name, then click the **Camera** icon at the bottom right of your picture. Select a photo or upload a new one, and follow the on-screen instructions to save.

This guide follows Facebook's Help pages on [changing your profile picture](https://www.facebook.com/help/163248423739693), [adding a temporary profile picture](https://www.facebook.com/help/816899741763786) and [changing a Page's profile picture](https://www.facebook.com/help/284445998278828), read on October 22, 2026. Facebook gives one set of steps for the computer, Android, iPhone and iPad, and a Page works differently from a personal profile.

## How to change your profile picture on Facebook

Facebook's Help Center gives two routes. The first is the quickest:

1. **Open your profile.** Click your profile picture in the top right, then click your profile name.
2. **Click the Camera icon** at the bottom right of your profile picture.
3. **Choose the picture.** Select a photo you already have or upload a new one. You can also add a frame to an existing picture.
4. **Save.** Follow the on-screen instructions.

The second route goes through Accounts Center: click your profile picture, then **Settings and privacy**, then **Settings**. Click **See more in Accounts Centre**, then **Profiles**, and choose the profile. Click **Profile picture**, then **Upload new photo**, upload your photo and follow the prompts.

Facebook notes that some accounts are moving to Meta Accounts, so you may see Meta Account settings instead of Accounts Centre. Meta Verified subscribers have different steps, covered in a separate article.

## How to change it on iPhone or Android

The Help page lists app tabs for each device but gives the same steps for all of them: open your profile, tap the camera icon on your picture, choose or upload a photo and save. Menu positions in the app can differ from the browser, so go by the icon on your screen.

If the change fails, Facebook's suggestions are to update or restart the app, check your data or Wi-Fi connection, refresh the page, or report the problem through Facebook's help options.

## How to set a temporary profile picture

A temporary picture goes back to your old one on a date you choose. Facebook's Help page lists these steps:

1. Open your profile and select your profile picture.
2. Choose the option to set a new one, then pick a photo to upload or a frame to add.
3. Turn on the option to make the picture temporary.
4. Choose when your previous profile picture should return, then save.

Facebook says your profile picture is always public. After a temporary picture expires, it stays visible in your profile pictures album, so it is not erased.

The Help page also says you can animate a still photo with a set of presets, and visitors to your profile will see the animated version.

## How to change a Facebook Page's profile picture

A Page's picture, usually a logo, is changed from the Page. Facebook says only people with Facebook access to the Page can do it.

1. Click your profile photo in the upper right and choose **See all profiles**, then pick the Page.
2. Select your Page's name in the left-hand menu.
3. Select **Photo** at the bottom right of the profile picture. You can also select the picture itself, then **Choose profile picture**.
4. Pick an option and follow the prompts.

### What size should a Page profile picture be?

Facebook's dimensions page recommends 320 x 320 pixels for best quality. It displays at 176 x 176 pixels on computers, 196 x 196 on smartphones and 36 x 36 on most feature phones, and it is cropped to a circle. For logos or text, Facebook says a PNG file may give a better result.

That circle crop is why a square image with the subject in the middle works best. The personal-profile Help page gives no size, so we do not state one.

## Why can't I change my Facebook profile picture?

Facebook's own list is short: update or restart the app, check your connection, refresh the page, or report the issue. For a Page, the first thing to check is access, since Facebook says only people with access to the Page can change its picture.

If you do not see the Camera icon, make sure you are on your own profile and not on a Page, and the other way round for a Page.

## Keep profile pictures consistent with TrackMedia

Profile pictures are set inside each network, so TrackMedia does not change them for you. What it does is help you keep one set of brand files and publish from one place to 21 networks, which is the easier way to stay consistent.

- **Media library.** Store your logo and headshot files once, and reuse the same file when you update each network.
- **One composer.** Announce the new picture or rebrand once, with a version fitted to each network and preflight checks.
- **Calendar and queues.** Schedule the announcement across Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and the rest on one day.

Sizes differ between networks, so check each one.
