# How to post to Instagram and Facebook at the same time

Turn on Instagram's Also share on toggle, or use Meta Business Suite. Here are the steps, why a post may not share, and what a multi-network tool adds.

*Guides · Published 2026-10-06*

To post to Instagram and Facebook at the same time, turn on "Also share on..." in the Instagram app before you tap Share, or switch on automatic sharing in Accounts Center. Either way, one Instagram post also appears on Facebook. If you want different text on each network, Meta Business Suite or a multi-network tool lets you write one post and edit each version.

This guide gives the steps in Meta's current wording, says which content types each route carries, explains why a post may not share, and covers the caption, link and hashtag differences. The Meta steps were checked against Meta's own help pages in October 2026. The TrackMedia section is written from our code, including what it cannot do.

## How can you post to Instagram and Facebook at the same time?

There are three routes, from simplest to most flexible. The first two are built into Meta's apps. The third is a tool that publishes through Meta's API.

| Route | Best when | Main limit |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Instagram's own toggle | You post from your phone and want the same post on Facebook | Instagram app on Android or iPhone only |
| Meta Business Suite | You manage a Page and want to edit the text for each network | Page and Instagram must be connected in one business portfolio |
| A multi-network tool | You post to more than two networks, or plan ahead | Bound by Meta's API limits, and a connection can expire |

*The three routes and their limits, as described in Meta's help pages and developer documentation.*

## How do you share an Instagram post to Facebook from the app?

Facebook's Help Center page "Share your Instagram posts to Facebook" gives these steps for the Instagram app on Android and iPhone. Meta says the feature is only available in the Instagram app on Android or iPhone.

1. **Start a post.** Upload or take a photo or video.
2. **Open the sharing options.** Before sharing, scroll down and tap **Also share on...**
3. **Turn Facebook on.** Tap the toggle next to your Facebook Page's name.
4. **Share.** Tap **Back** in the top left, then tap **Share**.

Meta says an Instagram post shared this way appears as a post in your Facebook Feed and profile. Its audience can differ from your normal Facebook posts, and you can change it before or after sharing.

### How do you auto share Instagram to Facebook?

Meta says you can share all future Instagram posts to Facebook from Accounts Center. When the setting is on, any post you share on Instagram is also shared to Facebook. The same page lists these steps:

1. Tap your profile picture in the bottom right, then tap **Menu** in the top right.
2. Tap **Accounts Center**, then **Connected experiences**.
3. Tap **Sharing across profiles**.
4. Tap the account to **Share from**, then the account to **Share to**.
5. Tap the toggle next to **Your Instagram posts**.

Meta's page notes that some people see "Accounts Center" and others see "Meta Account settings" while it moves people to Meta Accounts. If you do not see the first label, look for the second.

### Can you share Reels and Stories to Facebook too?

Yes. Meta's page for sharing to a Facebook Page covers posts, reels and stories from a professional Instagram account. Meta's general sharing page shows the same "Also share on..." step for reels. Meta's Business Help Center page on sharing from a professional account says you can share an individual story or reel to your Page, add to your Page's story, or allow all future posts, reels and stories to be shared automatically.

For a single reel, the steps match a post. Create the reel, tap **Also share on...**, tap the toggle next to your Page, then tap **Share this reel**. For a story, tap **Sharing options** under Your story, choose **Share your story**, and tap **Share**. For automatic sharing of all three, Meta says to open **Menu**, tap **Crossposting**, and use the toggles under **Automatically share**.

## How do you link Instagram to Facebook first?

Sharing needs two links in place. First, both accounts must be added to the same Accounts Center, which is what Meta's sharing page says.

Second, if you want to share to a Page, Meta's page "Connect or disconnect your professional Instagram account and a Facebook Page" lists what you need:

- A professional Instagram account (business or creator). If yours is personal, Meta says you will be prompted to switch while linking. Meta's sharing page adds that switching to a professional account makes the account public.
- Full control of the Facebook Page.
- The Instagram account in the same business portfolio as the Page. Meta says an Instagram account can be in only one business portfolio at a time.

Then, in the Instagram app, go to **Edit profile**, tap **Page**, tap **Connect or create**, log in to Facebook and choose the Page. One limit matters here: Meta says that sharing posts from a personal Instagram account to a Facebook Page is no longer available.

## Can Meta Business Suite post to both at once?

Yes. Meta Business Suite is Meta's tool for managing Pages and professional Instagram accounts, and its create-post screen lets you pick both destinations. Meta's help page for desktop lists these steps:

1. Go to Meta Business Suite and click **Create post**.
2. Under **Post to**, select your Facebook Page and your Instagram profile.
3. Under **Media**, add your photos. Meta notes that the limit for posting to Instagram is ten photos.
4. Under **Post details**, write your text. Meta says you can customize the text for Facebook and Instagram.
5. Choose an audience, then click **Publish**, **Schedule** or **Finish later**.

To create a post you need either Full control or Content permission for the Page or Instagram account. For reels, Meta adds that you cannot create a reel from photos if you are posting to Instagram.

Business Suite also has a crosspost option while you create content. Meta says the Page and Instagram profile must be connected and in the same business portfolio. Its table of what can be cross-posted includes:

| You create | Meta says it can also go to |
| --- | --- |
| Instagram post | Facebook Feed, Instagram Stories, Facebook Groups, Threads |
| Instagram reel | Instagram Stories, Facebook Reels, Facebook Groups |
| Instagram story | Facebook Stories |

Meta also says that crossposting to Threads is available only on Meta Business Suite desktop.

## Why isn't my Instagram post sharing to Facebook?

Start with the connection and the toggle. Instagram's Help Center page "Fix problems sharing Instagram reels to Facebook" gives a fix list for reels. We did not find a matching page for feed posts, so treat these as the first things to try for posts too:

1. Update both the Instagram and Facebook apps, and check your internet connection.
2. Open **Accounts Center**, then **Sharing across profiles**, pick your account under **Share from** and make sure the sharing toggle is on. For reels the label is **Your Instagram reels**.
3. Check that your Facebook account is listed under **Accounts** in Accounts Center.
4. Turn the toggle off, then back on, to refresh the connection.
5. Check **Account Status** in the Instagram menu for restrictions.
6. Close and reopen both apps, then log out and back in.
7. If nothing works, tap **Help**, then **Report a problem**.

If those pass, check the causes Meta's other pages point to:

- **Personal account to a Page.** Meta says this is no longer available. Switch to a professional account and connect the Page.
- **Page role.** Meta asks for Full control of the Page to connect it, and Full control or Content permission to post in Business Suite.
- **Different business portfolios.** The Page and Instagram account must be in the same one for Business Suite crossposting.
- **Wrong place.** Meta says the feature is only available in the Instagram app on Android or iPhone.
- **Content type.** Check the table above. Meta lists specific pairs, such as Instagram story to Facebook Stories.

## What changes when the same caption goes to both?

A caption that works on Facebook may need trimming for Instagram. Four differences matter most.

- **Length.** Meta's Instagram API reference says a caption can have a maximum of 2,200 characters. TrackMedia's composer allows up to 63,206 characters for a Facebook Page post. That figure comes from our code, not from a Meta page we read, but it shows how much room Facebook gives you.
- **Links.** TrackMedia's connectors treat a URL in an Instagram caption as plain text and a URL in a Facebook post as clickable. We did not find an Instagram help page that says this in so many words. Instagram's Help Center does offer a place for a link, in a page titled "Add a website to your Instagram profile". Put the URL in the Facebook version and point Instagram readers to your bio. Our guide on [how to see who clicked your Instagram link](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-to-see-who-clicked-your-instagram-link) covers tracking it.
- **Hashtags.** Instagram's Help Center page on hashtags says you can use up to 5 tags on a post, and warns that if you include more than 5 on a photo or video, your comment won't post. Meta's API reference still lists 30 hashtags. Meta's two pages disagree, so keep to five.
- **Media.** Instagram posts need a photo or video. Facebook can carry text alone, so a text-only Facebook post has no Instagram twin.

## When does a third-party tool make sense?

If you only need the same Instagram post on one Facebook Page, the built-in toggle is enough. A tool earns its place when you post to more than two networks, want a different caption per network, or want to plan posts in advance.

The trade-offs are real. Meta's content publishing documentation sets these limits for anything that publishes through its API:

- An Instagram professional account is required.
- Meta's Content Publishing page gives 100 API-published posts in a 24-hour moving period in its rate-limit section and 50 in its carousel section, so plan for 50. A carousel counts as one post.
- Carousels are limited to 10 images, videos or a mix.
- JPEG is the only image format supported, and filters and shopping tags are not supported.

A tool is also one more login, and a connection to Meta can expire and need reconnecting. Some content still has to be posted from the Instagram app. TrackMedia does not attach Instagram audio to a Reel, so post a Reel that depends on a specific sound from the Instagram app. Meta documents an Audio API for attaching audio to Reels at creation (updated June 16, 2026); TrackMedia does not use it.

## How does TrackMedia post to Instagram and Facebook together?

TrackMedia's composer is one screen where you pick both accounts, write once and edit each network's version. These are the steps:

1. **Connect the accounts.** Add your Facebook Page and your Instagram professional account. TrackMedia publishes to Pages, not personal profiles.
2. **Write the master draft and pick both accounts.** Each account gets its own copy of the text, pre-filled from the master draft. It stays tied to the master until you type in it, and a Back to master button resets it.
3. **Add media.** Instagram needs an image or video, because the connector rejects a text-only post.
4. **Read the preflight checks.** The composer checks each network's limits while you write and shows a character counter and a preview per account.
5. **Publish or schedule.** See [how publishing works](https://www.trackmedia.app/#publish).

What TrackMedia can publish, as of October 2026, is set by its connectors:

- **Instagram:** a single image, or a carousel of up to 10 items with photos and videos mixed. The connector has no path for Stories. Its code can send a video as a Reel from a Business account (not a Creator account), but only when a Reel setting is passed in through the API; the composer has no Reel option today, so we do not promise video posts from the composer.
- **Facebook Page:** up to 10 images or GIFs, or one video, or text alone. If you attach a video together with other media, only the first video is sent.
- **Links:** where a network makes links clickable, TrackMedia swaps them for tracked short links. It leaves links in an Instagram caption as you wrote them.

### What about Crosspost rules?

[Crosspost](https://www.trackmedia.app/#crosspost) watches one account and, when it publishes, copies the post to other accounts, adapted to each destination. By default, new rules start switched off and in review mode, so each copy waits as a draft until a person approves it. By default a caption over the destination's limit is shortened without cutting inside a link, and a link is removed from text where the network would show it as dead text.

Today only Bluesky can be watched. The rule editor still lists Instagram and Facebook as sources, and a rule that watches Instagram can be saved, but its first check fails because Instagram's connector has no way to read your new posts, and after five failed checks the rule pauses itself. So an Instagram to Facebook rule does not work yet. Instagram and Facebook both work as destinations, for example from a Bluesky rule. Instagram and Facebook both work as destinations. To post to both at once, use the composer. For more on automating Instagram itself, see [how to automate Instagram posts](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-to-automate-instagram-posts).

## What to do next

Start with the free toggle if one Page is all you need, and move to a composer when you want per-network text and tracked links: [start free with TrackMedia](https://go.trackmedia.app/signup).

## How we checked this

We read these primary sources on October 6, 2026. Meta's help pages load by device, so we read the steps for the Instagram app. We did not post test content to live accounts for this guide, and we did not verify aspect ratios or whether links in Instagram captions are tappable on a Meta page.
