# How to repost on Reddit: steps, rules and undo

To repost on Reddit, tap Repost under a post and pick a community. Reddit documents no undo button, only deleting the post. Rules and limits explained.

*Guides · Published 2026-10-06*

To repost on Reddit, click or tap the **Repost** icon under a post, choose a community (or your own profile), edit the title or add flair if you want, and post. Reddit Help documents no "undo repost" button: the way to take one back is to delete the post from your profile, and Reddit says a deleted post cannot be restored.

This guide uses Reddit Help pages read on October 6, 2026. It covers the steps, your own posts versus other people's, sharing a comment, deleting or editing afterward, and the rules that decide whether a repost sticks. Our guide to [crossposting on Reddit](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-to-crosspost-on-reddit) covers the Crosspost-to-Repost rename.

## How to repost on Reddit step by step

Reddit Help's article [What is reposting (fka crossposting)?](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/4835584113684-What-is-reposting-fka-crossposting) gives these steps on reddit.com:

1. **Click Repost** under the post.
2. **Pick the destination** in the **Select a community** drop-down menu.
3. **Edit the title (optional)** or add flair if needed.
4. **Click Post** to publish the repost into the selected community.

On iOS you tap the Repost icon under the post, find the community, edit the title or add flair, and tap **Post**. On Android the steps match, except you choose your community or profile in the **Post to** menu.

## Is reposting your own post different from reposting someone else's?

Reddit documents no separate steps. Its page says "the post" and does not separate posts you wrote from posts other people wrote. We could not confirm that the Repost icon appears under your own posts, so check on screen before you plan around it.

Two things do change with whose content it is. First, the destination: Reddit's Moderator Help page on [sharing content into your community](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/15484442458900-How-to-repost-fka-crosspost-or-share-content-into-your-community) says to choose "your community or profile" in the menu, so posting a repost to your own profile is documented. Second, the rules: for other people's content the embed credits them, and for your own old content the question becomes whether you are posting it again to gain attention or karma (covered below).

![Decision flow for four Reddit tasks. Share a post into another community: Repost icon under the post, pick a community, edit title or flair, Post. Share a comment as its own post: overflow menu under the comment, Share as post, pick a community, Post. Put the same thing up again in the same place: a new post, and Reddiquette says to search for duplicates first. Take a repost back: no undo button is documented, delete the post, and Reddit says it cannot be restored. A side box lists checks documented for reposting a post: the community allows reposts, you are a member, the content is relevant, the community's rules allow it, and it is not mass-posting the same content for exposure. A note says sharing a comment also needs links enabled in the community.](https://www.trackmedia.app/assets/img/blog/how-to-repost-on-reddit-fig1.svg)

*Four things people mean by "repost" on Reddit and the route Reddit Help documents for each, plus the checks that apply before you post.*

## How do you repost a comment instead of a post?

Reddit calls this sharing a comment as a post. On reddit.com you click the overflow menu below the comment, choose **Share as post**, pick the community in the **Select a community** drop-down menu, edit the title and add body text if you like, and click **Post**. On iOS and Android you open the same overflow menu under the comment.

| Item | Repost a post | Share a comment as a post |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Where you start | Repost icon under the post | Overflow menu, then Share as post |
| Shown in the embed | Username, source community, upvote score | Same, plus number of replies |
| Destination needs | Reposts allowed there | Links enabled in Post & Comments settings |

The embed and links details come from the Moderator Help page linked above.

## How do you undo a repost on Reddit?

We found no Reddit Help page that describes an undo button for a repost, so the documented route is deleting the post. Reddit's [How do I delete a post?](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043483071-How-do-I-delete-a-post) says that on reddit.com you click your profile photo, select **View Profile**, click **Posts**, open the overflow menu beside the post, and select **Delete**. On iOS and Android you tap your avatar, select **Posts**, tap the overflow menu on the post, then tap **Delete post**.

Reddit's page [If I delete a post or comment, can it be restored?](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043483451-If-I-delete-a-post-or-comment-can-it-be-restored) answers no, and says moderators and Reddit administrators cannot bring it back. That page and the delete page speak of posts in general and never mention reposts by name, and we found nothing on what deleting a repost does to the original, so we do not claim anything about that.

Editing is a narrower fix. Reddit's page [Can I edit my posts and comments?](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205191195-Can-I-edit-my-posts-and-comments) says you can edit text posts and comments, but only a post's content and not its title. So set the title you want when you repost. That page does not say whether a repost itself can be edited.

## Why can't I repost into a community?

Several documented conditions can block it:

- **The community turned reposts off.** Reddit's [Community settings](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/15484546290068-Community-settings) lets moderators toggle **Reposts (fka crossposts)** alongside other post types. The repost article says an unavailable community is greyed out in the selection list, and our [crossposting guide](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-to-crosspost-on-reddit) goes deeper on that.
- **You are not a member.** Moderator Help's page on [reposting your community's content](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/15484385684628-How-to-repost-fka-crosspost-your-community-s-content-to-other-communities) says you must be a member of the community you are sharing to.
- **You hit the posting limit.** Reddit's ["You're doing that too much" page](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/204579879-Why-am-I-being-told-You-re-doing-that-too-much) says there is a limit on how often users can post and comment in a community, and that new accounts with little karma may hit it. It does not give a number, does not mention reposts by name, and says earning a little karma by commenting can help.

## Which rules apply when you repost?

Reddit Help's repost article says to repost only content that is relevant to the community you are posting in, and warns that posting randomly in unrelated communities can be seen as spammy. The moderator page adds that the content should meet the target community's rules, so read them before you post.

Reddit's [Spam](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043504051-Spam) page lists two relevant items among things that may violate its policy: mass-posting repetitive content for exposure or financial gain, and repeatedly posting or sharing old content to rapidly gain karma. It also says that if your contributions are mostly links to a business you run or benefit from, you should be thoughtful about how often you post.

Putting the same thing up again is a different case. [Reddiquette](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette) says to search for duplicates before posting, but also says you can post something again if the earlier post did not get the attention it deserved. It tells readers not to complain about reposts, because seeing something before does not mean everyone has. Reddiquette also lists reposting deleted or removed information under what not to do (its example is a deleted comment), so do not repost removed material.

## Can TrackMedia repost on Reddit?

No. TrackMedia's code includes a Reddit connector that submits a new post to a subreddit you pick; it does not call Reddit's Repost feature. It can send a text post or a link post, requires a title (up to 300 characters in the code) and turns down a link that Reddit says was already submitted to that subreddit.

That last behavior matters if your plan is to put an old link up again: the code sends Reddit's resubmit option as false and turns Reddit's already-submitted and duplicate-link errors into a failed post that reads "That link has already been submitted to this subreddit". Rate-limit and other rule rejections from Reddit are also reported as failed posts with a reason. TrackMedia's own Crosspost rules are a separate feature that cannot watch Reddit, and the code does not offer a way to repost one subreddit post into another. To publish a new piece to Reddit and other networks from one draft, see [how publishing works in TrackMedia](https://www.trackmedia.app/#publish). If you also want the Instagram equivalent, read our guide to [reposting a Reel on Instagram](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-to-repost-a-reel-on-instagram).

The honest limit: any Reddit repost you want has to be done in Reddit itself, and whether a subreddit accepts it is up to its moderators. When you are ready to draft once and publish new posts across networks, you can [start free with TrackMedia](https://go.trackmedia.app/signup).

## How we checked this

We opened each Reddit Help page below in a browser tab on October 6, 2026 and copied labels and wording from the page text. We did not log in to Reddit or click any of these buttons, so we did not see them on screen. Reddit edits its help pages often, so check the live page if a label differs. TrackMedia's behavior comes from its Reddit connector code, read the same day.

We could not verify an undo-repost button, what happens to a repost when the original is deleted, whether the Repost icon appears under your own posts, whether the edit rules cover a repost's body, what Reddit's API documentation says about the resubmit option (reddit.com could not be opened in our browser), or Reddit's Rules page on redditinc.com, which we did not open. We left those out or labeled them above.
