# How to edit a post on X and schedule posts

Edit a post on X within 1 hour, up to 5 times, with X Premium. To schedule one, use the x.com calendar icon, X Pro, Media Studio or X Ads.

*Guides · Published 2026-10-06*

How to edit a post on X: you need an X Premium subscription, and X's Help Center gives you a 1 hour window and up to 5 edits.

The post then shows an edited label with its history. To schedule a post, X's How to Post page says to select the calendar icon in the x.com compose box, and the Help Center also documents X Pro, Media Studio and the X Ads composer.

We opened each X page cited below in a browser on October 6, 2026, and say where X's pages are silent or disagree. We also explain how TrackMedia schedules posts to X, which is not X's own scheduler.

## How to edit a post on X

X's [About Edit Post](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/edit-post) page says Edit post is a feature for X Premium subscribers. After you publish a post or a Quote, a notification says it was sent and that you can edit it for the next 1 hour, with up to 5 edits in that window.

X's [X Premium how to](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/x-premium-how-to) page gives the steps:

1. **Send your post.** You are notified that you have 1 hour to edit it.
2. **Open the post menu.** Select the icon in the top right corner of your post and choose **Edit post**.
3. **Make your changes.** You can add, delete or correct text, tag someone, or reorder the media.
4. **Select Update.** A notification says your post has been edited.

Two rules catch people out. The Edit Post page says you can only edit a post from the device you sent it from, so a post sent from x.com is edited on x.com. The Premium how-to page says that once you reply to your own post, the original is no longer editable.

### Which posts cannot be edited

The Edit Post page lists these types as not editable right now: threads, replies, promoted posts, polls, pinned posts, posts from a third-party service, posts via X Pro, and subscriber posts. Only the text or media of original posts and Quotes can be edited.

Two of these matter if you schedule: "posts from a third-party service" and "posts via X Pro". X's page defines neither, so we do not know whether a post you scheduled in X Pro, or one sent through X's API, counts. If you need to change a scheduled post, edit it before it goes out rather than counting on an edit afterward.

## What does an edited post look like?

An edited post shows an edited icon and label, and everyone on X can see it. The Edit Post page says clicking into the post shows previously published versions, and that the post keeps the engagement of past versions. It also names a **Last edited** button on your post where you can see the edit history.

The Edit Post page distinguishes this from [Undo post](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/undo-post), another Premium feature. Undo post holds a post privately for a short period (30 seconds by default) so you can revise it before anyone sees it. X says it is not an edit button.

## How to schedule a post on X

X's Help Center documents scheduling in four places: the x.com composer, X Pro, Media Studio and the X Ads composer. None of the scheduling pages we read states a Premium requirement, which is not the same as saying none exists. Edit post and longer posts, by contrast, are stated as Premium features.

### Schedule from x.com

X's [How to Post](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/how-to-post) page covers this in its Desktop (web) steps. Select the calendar icon at the bottom of the compose box, make your schedule selections, then select **Confirm**. To save a draft instead, select the X icon in the top left corner of the compose box, then **Save**.

To reach drafts and scheduled posts, select **Unsent posts** from the compose box. The iOS and Android steps on that page do not mention scheduling, so we cannot give you steps for the mobile apps.

The [About different types of Posts](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/types-of-posts) page adds that you cannot currently save a draft or schedule a longer post on web, and the Premium how-to page says longer posts cannot yet be scheduled.

X's pages also disagree on longer-post length: 25,000 characters on those two pages and in the How to Post web steps, but 4,000 in the How to Post iOS and Android steps. For counting rules see our [guide to X's character limit](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/twitter-character-limit).

### Schedule in X Pro

X's [advanced X Pro features](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/advanced-postdeck-features) page gives these steps:

1. Sign in to X Pro and click the post button.
2. Confirm the X account you want to post from is selected.
3. Compose the post, adding images or video if you want.
4. Click **Schedule post** and pick the date and time.
5. Click **Schedule post at [date/time]**.

X notes that X Pro does not support scheduled Direct Messages, and that in a corporate setup all scheduled posts for connected accounts are visible to anyone with access.

### Schedule in Media Studio

The [Media Studio Library](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/media-studio-faqs) page says to click the post button under a media thumbnail, enter text, click **Schedule**, choose a date and exact time, and click the post button to save.

Its FAQ says posts can have up to 280 characters and threads are not supported. It also says you can "only schedule one post at a time per account", though the same page mentions a limit of 1000 draft or scheduled posts, so treat the one-at-a-time wording as unclear.

### Schedule in the X Ads composer

X's [Scheduled Posts](https://help.x.com/en/business-and-advertising/scheduled-tweets) page covers ads.x.com. Open the **Composer** tab, write the post, click the drop-down arrow next to **Post**, choose the date and time, then click **Schedule**. The page says the live post keeps the scheduled time as its timestamp and keeps the same Post ID.

## How to see, edit or delete a scheduled post on X

Where you look depends on where you scheduled it. X's help pages do not describe a single list that the four routes share.

- **x.com.** Select **Unsent posts** from the compose box to reach drafts and scheduled posts. X's page does not say how to edit or delete a scheduled post from there.
- **X Pro.** Add a **Scheduled** column to see your scheduled posts. X's page says you can view and edit them from that column.
- **Media Studio.** Click **Schedule** in the top navigation bar to see all scheduled posts, and use the delete icon beside one to remove it. X says you cannot edit a scheduled post in Media Studio: delete it and create a new one.
- **X Ads.** On the **Posts** tab, change the filter from Promoted to **Scheduled**. Hover a post, click the three dots, then **Edit** or **Delete**, and click **Save** after editing.

The Ads page adds that scheduled posts only appear in Ads Manager once they go live. The Media Studio page also says a scheduled post can be modified on x.com, but that this creates a new, lower-quality copy of the media and loses Media Studio metadata.

## How to repost on X

X's [How to Repost](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/how-to-repost) page says to tap the Repost icon on a post, then **Repost**, to share it unchanged with your followers. Tap **Repost as Quote** to add your own comment, and **Undo Repost** to take one back.

The [Repost FAQs](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/repost-faqs) say posts from protected accounts cannot be reposted and that Reposts count toward your 1,000 posts per day limit. Neither page says whether a Repost can be scheduled, so we make no claim either way.

## How TrackMedia schedules posts to X

TrackMedia holds the schedule itself and publishes to X at the time you chose. It is not X's native scheduler, so the post appears in TrackMedia and never in the x.com Unsent posts view, X Pro's Scheduled column, Media Studio or the Ads scheduled list.

X's API reference for creating posts, read on [docs.x.com](https://docs.x.com/x-api/posts/create-post), lists no scheduling field among its request parameters, which fits that design.

- **Find it.** The **Posts** page has a status filter that includes **Scheduled**, plus search and an account filter. The **Calendar** has month and week views, and you can drag a post to another day.
- **Change it.** Open a post to **Edit** it while it is a Draft or Scheduled, **Publish now**, **Unschedule** it back to Draft, or **Delete** it from the queue.
- **Past times.** A time in the past is rejected, and how far ahead you can schedule depends on your plan.

The X connector publishes text with up to four images, one GIF or one video. In the web composer, X posts are limited to 280 characters; the editor shows a note that Premium authors can post longer, but it has no switch for it. Threads and a per-target Premium override that lifts the limit to 25,000 characters exist only through the API.

TrackMedia's counter counts plain text length and does not apply X's weighted counting, so check long posts against X's rules.

TrackMedia does not edit a post after it publishes. X's Edit Post page excludes "posts from a third-party service" without defining it, so a post that TrackMedia publishes may not be editable in X at all; check the post's menu on X before you plan around an edit.

TrackMedia does not publish Reposts or Quote posts, because we found no such calls in the X connector, and X's API documentation says quote-posting needs an Enterprise plan, not available on self-serve (pay-per-use) tiers.

The same queue model applies to other networks, as in our guides to [LinkedIn](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-to-see-and-edit-scheduled-posts-on-linkedin) and [Facebook](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-to-see-and-edit-scheduled-posts-on-facebook) scheduled posts. See [how publishing works in TrackMedia](https://www.trackmedia.app/#publish), or [start free with TrackMedia](https://go.trackmedia.app/signup) to keep every scheduled post in one place.

## How we checked this

We opened each page below in a browser on October 6, 2026 and copied labels, numbers and limits from it, including every device tab (iOS, Android, Desktop) on the How to Post page.

We did not test scheduling or editing on a live X account, and we did not test an X Premium account. X changes these pages often, so check the live page if a label looks different.

- [About Edit Post](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/edit-post) (X Help Center): 1 hour window, up to 5 edits, the edited label, history, device rule, uneditable post types.
- [X Premium how to](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/x-premium-how-to) (X Help Center): edit steps, replying to your own post, longer posts that cannot yet be scheduled.
- [Undo Post](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/undo-post) (X Help Center): Premium feature, 30-second default, not an edit button.
- [About different types of Posts](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/types-of-posts) (X Help Center): longer posts are Premium and cannot be drafted or scheduled on web.
- [How to Post](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/how-to-post) (X Help Center): scheduling from the x.com compose box (calendar icon, Confirm, Unsent posts), drafts, and the 4,000 and 25,000 longer-post figures.
- [About advanced X Pro features](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/advanced-postdeck-features) and [How to use X Pro](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/how-to-use-x-pro) (X Help Center): X Pro scheduling and the Scheduled column.
- [Media Studio Library](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/media-studio-faqs) (X Help Center): Media Studio scheduling, limits, deleting.
- [Scheduled Posts](https://help.x.com/en/business-and-advertising/scheduled-tweets) (X Help Center): X Ads scheduling, viewing, editing.
- [How to Repost](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/how-to-repost) and [Repost FAQs](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/repost-faqs) (X Help Center): Repost, Quote, undo, limits.
- [Create Posts](https://docs.x.com/x-api/posts/create-post) (X API reference, docs.x.com): request body fields, no scheduling parameter, quote-posting plan requirement.

What we could not verify: whether scheduling from x.com, X Pro, Media Studio or Ads needs Premium (no page we read says so), how to edit or delete a scheduled post from Unsent posts on x.com, whether the iOS and Android apps can schedule.

Also unverified: whether a Repost can be scheduled, and which longer-post limit is current (the How to Post page lists both 4,000 and 25,000). TrackMedia's behavior comes from our product and its X connector code, read the same day.
