# How to use Instagram Reels for business

To use Instagram Reels for business, set up a professional account, post short videos with one idea, put a tracked link in your bio, and read reel insights.

To use Instagram Reels for business, switch to a professional account, post short videos that each make one clear point, send viewers to one tracked link in your bio, and read your reel insights to see what to repeat. Reels are short videos on Instagram that can reach people who do not follow you yet.

This guide uses Instagram's Help Center and Instagram's own creator and Reels pages, read on October 22, 2026. It gives eight steps from setup to measurement, what Instagram says about reach and length, how to follow a viewer from a Reel to a visit on your site, and how to plan and schedule Reels with TrackMedia.

## Why use Reels for business

Instagram's creator guidance, published January 21, 2025, says its Reels recommendations were updated so that creators of all sizes have an equal chance of breaking through and reaching new audiences, and that reels up to 3 minutes can now reach non-followers on the Reels tab and Explore. The guidance's main growth advice is to keep publishing original work.

That matters for a small business, because it means a new account can reach strangers without a large following. It does not guarantee views, and Instagram publishes no formula. Treat Reels as the format that can bring new people in, and the rest of your content as the place they get to know you.

## How to use Instagram Reels for business in 8 steps

Step 4: they land on one page on your site. ### Step 1: Set up a professional account

Instagram's Help Center says business accounts are best for retailers, local businesses, brands, organizations and service providers, and creator accounts for public figures, content producers, artists and influencers. A professional account gives you the professional dashboard, ads, a contact button and a category label.

In the app, tap your profile picture, tap **More** to go to your Settings and activity, and below **For professionals** tap **Account type and tools**, then **Switch to professional account**. Pick a category, then choose **Creator** or **Business**. Instagram notes that if your account is private, switching to professional makes it public. If you are unsure which type to pick, see our guide to [switching between account types](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-to-switch-to-a-personal-account-on-instagram).

### Step 2: Pick one goal for each Reel

A Reel can introduce you to new people, show a product, answer a question or send people to a page. Decide which before you film. One goal per video makes the script, the caption and the link obvious.

### Step 3: Plan ideas from customer questions

The easiest ideas come from what customers ask you. Turn each question into a short answer on camera. Good starting formats for a business:

- **One-tip answers.** "How do I..." with the answer in the first seconds.
- **Behind the scenes.** How the product is made or the order is packed.
- **Product in use.** The thing doing its job, with no script.
- **Before and after.** A clear change in one clip.

Our [Instagram Reel templates](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/instagram-reel-templates) and [content calendar guide](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/instagram-content-calendar) can help you plan a month.

### Step 4: Record and edit the Reel

Instagram's Reels page lists what you can do in the app: multi-clip videos, uploads from your gallery, text, AR filters, audio from the Instagram music library or your own original audio, a timer, speed control, Voiceover, Remix and Templates. The page's overview says multi-clip videos up to 3 minutes, its help section says you can record and edit videos up to 20 minutes, and it notes that reels over 3 minutes won't be recommended to new audiences.

For the exact taps, see our guide to [how to post reels on Instagram](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-to-post-reels-on-instagram). For length, [how long an Instagram Reel can be](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/how-long-can-an-instagram-reel-be). Put the point in the first seconds.

### Step 5: Write the caption and one call to action

Say what the Reel gives and what to do next, in one sentence: "Link in bio for the full guide." A link inside an Instagram caption is plain text, so the bio is where people tap.

### Step 6: Put one link in your bio, and track it

Instagram's Help Center says you can add up to five websites to your profile under **Edit profile**, then **Links**. The page for adding a website lists the iPhone and Android apps and says the feature is not available on computers. Use the first link for whatever the Reels point to this week.

Make that link a tracked link, with UTM tags that say it came from Instagram and from which post. Our [link in bio guide](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/where-to-find-link-in-bio-on-instagram) shows where it sits, and the [UTM naming conventions](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/utm-naming-conventions) guide shows how to name the tags.

### Step 7: Post on a schedule

Instagram's Help Center says that if you have a public account you can schedule reels, photos and carousel posts from the Instagram app, up to 25 posts a day and up to 30 days in advance. Product tagging, collaborative posts, sponsored posts and fundraisers are not compatible with scheduled content. Pick a rhythm you can keep, such as two Reels a week, and batch-record them.

### Step 8: Read the insights, then repeat what worked

Go to the **Reels** tab on your Instagram profile, click the reel, then click **View insights**. Instagram's Help Center lists these metrics:

- **Views:** the number of times your reel starts to play or replay.
- **Watch time:** the total time the reel was played, including replays.
- **Viewers:** unique accounts that saw it on screen at least once. Estimated and in development.
- **Average watch time:** watch time divided by the number of initial views.
- **Follows:** accounts that started following you as a result of viewing the reel.

Insights for reels are available for reels posted on or after May 14, 2021, and for up to two years after publishing. A public personal or professional account can view them. Look for the pattern in your best Reels: the hook, the length, the topic. Our guide to [what Instagram insights mean](https://www.trackmedia.app/blog/what-do-instagram-insights-mean) explains the rest.

## How to follow a viewer from a Reel to a sale

Reel insights stop at your Instagram profile. To see what happens after the tap, you need a link you control. The chain looks like this:

1. A viewer watches your Reel (Instagram's views and watch time).
2. They tap your profile and open the link in your bio (a tracked click).
3. They land on one page on your site (a visitor, with the source recorded in the UTM tags).
4. They buy, book or sign up on your site (the number your own checkout or analytics records).

Give each campaign its own tagged link and you can compare Reels by what they sent, not only by views. A Reel with fewer views that sends more visitors is the better one for a business.

## Plan, schedule and measure Reels with TrackMedia

TrackMedia is built for step 7 and step 8. You write the Reel's caption once in the composer, TrackMedia fits a version to Instagram and runs preflight checks, and you schedule it on a calendar or send it to a posting queue that fills slots with content from your collections. The same post can go to other networks that take short video, such as TikTok and YouTube, with a version fitted to each.

Links in your posts are tracked in real time with UTM tags, so you see clicks, visitors and referrers per post and per network, and analytics bring in Instagram's own metrics, including for Reels you posted in the app. A "Best times" view built from your own posts shows when your audience responds, and the AI assistant can help you draft captions.

For Reels, TrackMedia publishes to Instagram Business accounts, with videos from 3 seconds to 3 minutes in MP4 or MOV. Reels that use Instagram's in-app audio, effects or trending templates cannot be sent through the API, so for those TrackMedia sends you a reminder to finish the post in the app. Stories are also done in the Instagram app. [Start free with TrackMedia](https://go.trackmedia.app/signup): 15 posts a month, one account per network, no card.

## Questions people also ask

### Are Instagram Reels good for business?

Instagram says Reels can reach people who do not follow you, and that creators of all sizes have an equal chance of reaching new audiences. Results still vary, so measure with reel insights and a tracked link.

### Do I need a business account to post Reels?

Not to view reel insights: Instagram says a public personal or professional account can. A professional account adds the dashboard and ads, and is the right choice for a business. To publish Reels through TrackMedia you need a Business account.

### How long should a business Reel be?

Instagram says reels over 3 minutes are not recommended to new audiences. Beyond that, make it as long as the point needs.

### How often should a business post Reels?

Instagram's pages we read give no number. Choose a rhythm you can keep and compare results.

### How do I see if Reels bring customers?

Use reel insights for views and watch time, and a tracked link with UTM tags in your bio for clicks and visitors.
