TrackMedia limits how much you can post to X, because X charges for every post sent through its API. Each plan has three X limits: how many X accounts you can connect, how many posts a day each account can send, and how many posts a month your whole plan can send. Posts to X are plain text only. Posts to every other network are not limited this way.
The limits on each plan
| Free | Creator | Agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| X accounts you can connect | 1 | 2 | 20 |
| X posts a day, per account | 3 | 5 | 5 |
| X posts a month, shared by all your X accounts and workspaces | 3 | 250 | 1,500 |
| Links and media in X posts | Not allowed: plain text only | ||
| X stats | Not included | On request | On request |
Both ceilings apply at once. On Creator, two accounts can send 5 posts each a day, which is 10 a day at most, but the whole plan stops at 250 a month however you spread them. The monthly allowance is one pool for the plan, not one per account. It does not matter whether it is spent from one account or all of them, or from one workspace or many.
What counts as one X post
| What you do | Counts as |
|---|---|
| One post to one X account | 1 |
| The same post to two X accounts | 2 |
| A thread of 5 posts to one X account | 5 |
| That thread to two X accounts | 10 |
| A draft or a preview | 0 |
| A post that fails to send | 0 |
| Any post to Bluesky, LinkedIn, Instagram or any other network | 0 |
A post that is scheduled or publishing counts straight away, and so does one that is being retried. It stops counting if it ends up failed, or if you cancel or delete it.
When the day and the month start
Both limits use UTC, and both count the day or month a post is due, not the day you scheduled it. So you can schedule next week's posts today without spending today's allowance. A post due on October 25 counts against October 25 and against October's monthly allowance, whenever you scheduled it.
The day changes at 00:00 UTC. For someone in New York that is 8 pm the evening before (7 pm when clocks are back), and for someone in Dhaka it is 6 am. The composer shows every time in UTC and in your own clock, so you can see which day a post falls on. If you move a post to another day, it moves its count with it.
What happens when you reach a limit
- Scheduling, queueing or publishing a post that would pass the daily or monthly limit is refused, and the message names the limit.
- Nothing is dropped silently, and nothing already scheduled is deleted or changed.
- Posts to your other networks go out as normal, even when the same post to X is refused.
- The daily limit clears at 00:00 UTC. The monthly allowance clears on the first of the month at 00:00 UTC. Nothing carries over, so an unused allowance is not saved for later.
Why X posts are plain text only
X bills a post that contains a link at many times the rate of a plain post, and a post with an image costs more than a plain one too. To keep every plan's allowance meaningful, TrackMedia sends X posts as plain text:
- Links are refused. That includes a bare domain such as
example.com, because X turns it into a link by itself. - Attached images and video are refused.
The composer checks this as you type and tells you what to remove, before anything is scheduled. The same post can still carry its link and media to your other networks, because the check applies to the X version only. If you want a link on X, put it in your bio, or tailor the X version to point at your profile.
X stats
X also charges for every post it returns when we read an account's numbers, so TrackMedia never reads X on a schedule. On Creator and Agency, the refresh button on an X account reads its numbers and its newest posts on request, at most once every 15 minutes for each account. The free plan does not include X stats. Every other network updates on its own, as usual.
Worked examples
- Creator, two X accounts. You can send 5 posts a day from each account. A sixth post due the same UTC day on the same account is refused, even if you try to schedule it a week ahead. After 250 posts in a month, X is closed until the first of the next month.
- Agency, a client thread. A 4-post thread to one client's X account uses 4 of that account's 5 daily posts, and 4 of the plan's 1,500 monthly posts.
- Free, trying it out. You can send 3 posts to X in a month. After that, X waits until the next month while your other networks keep going.
Frequently asked questions
Why does TrackMedia limit posts to X?
X charges for every post sent through its API, and for every post it returns when we read stats. The monthly allowance keeps the cost of a plan predictable, so we can keep the plan prices low and charge nothing extra per channel. No other network bills per post, so no other network is limited this way.
Can I add a link to a post on X?
No. Posts to X are plain text. X bills a post that contains a link at many times the rate of a plain post, and it turns a bare domain such as example.com into a link on its own, so a link and a bare domain are both refused. The composer tells you as you type. Put the link in your bio, or share it on the other networks.
Can I attach an image or video to a post on X?
No. Posts to X are plain text, so attached images and video are refused. Your other networks still get the media.
Do threads count as one post?
No. Every post in a thread counts once, so a thread of five posts uses five from your allowance.
Do drafts and scheduled posts count?
Drafts never count. A scheduled post counts against the day and month it is due, from the moment you schedule it, and stops counting if you cancel or delete it. A post that fails to send does not count.
Do unused X posts roll over?
No. The daily limit starts again every day and the monthly allowance starts again on the first of the month, both at 00:00 UTC. Nothing carries over.
What happens when I reach a limit?
TrackMedia refuses the post that would pass the limit when you schedule or publish it, and the message names the limit. Nothing is dropped silently, nothing already scheduled is deleted, and your posts to every other network are not affected.
Does the free plan include X?
Yes. The free plan lets you connect one X account and send 3 posts a month to it. X stats are not part of the free plan.
Can I buy more X posts?
Not today. If you reach the monthly allowance, posting to X resumes on the first of the next month (UTC), and you can move to a larger plan at any time.
The plans and their prices are on the pricing page. Questions about any of this: maruf@trackmedia.app. A person will reply.
