How to crosspost on Reddit (now called Repost)

To crosspost on Reddit, tap Repost under a post, pick a community, edit the title or flair, and post. See what it keeps and why some communities block it.

To crosspost on Reddit, open the post, click or tap Repost under it, choose the community you want, edit the title or add flair if needed, and post. Reddit renamed the Crosspost button to Repost, but Reddit says the core function is the same: you share an existing Reddit post into another eligible community.

This guide follows Reddit Help's own pages, read on October 6, 2026. It covers the steps on web, iOS and Android, what a crosspost shows, why a community may not allow it, and the spam rules that matter when you share one post in several places. It ends with what TrackMedia can and cannot do for Reddit.

How to crosspost on Reddit on web, iOS and Android

Reddit Help's article What is reposting (fka crossposting)? gives separate steps for each platform. On reddit.com:

  1. Find the post. Open the post you want to share.
  2. Click Repost. It sits under the post.
  3. Choose the community. Use the Select a community drop-down menu. Reddit's moderator page says you can also choose your own profile here.
  4. Edit if needed. Changing the title is optional, and you can add flair.
  5. Click Post. This publishes the repost into the selected community.

On iOS you tap the Repost icon under the post, find the community, optionally edit the title or add flair, and tap Post. On Android the steps are the same, except the page says to choose your community or profile in the Post to menu.

Reddit's page also says you can share a comment as its own post. On reddit.com you open the overflow menu under the comment and select Share as post, and on iOS and Android you do the same from the comment's overflow menu. For a community to receive a shared comment, Reddit's moderator page says it needs links enabled in its Post & Comments settings.

Decision flow for Reddit reposts. Step 1: you found a post. Step 2: does the community allow reposts? If yes, use Repost under the post, pick the community, edit the title or flair, and Post. If no, write a new post that follows the community's rules or ask its moderators. A note says Reddit's Spam page lists mass-posting of repetitive content for exposure among the things that may violate its policy.

What is the difference between a crosspost, a repost and a new post?

On Reddit today, "crosspost" and "repost" name the same button. Reddit's June 4, 2026 changelog says crosspost has been renamed to repost, the icon was updated, and the change is live on all platforms. Reddit's own article titles now read "repost (fka crosspost)", which is why you will see both words.

That makes "how to repost on Reddit" ambiguous. If you mean sharing a post into another community, you use the Repost button above. If you mean pasting the same text or link again as a fresh submission, that is a new post, and it gets none of the attribution described in the next section.

Reddit's Spam page lists repeatedly posting or sharing old content to gain karma quickly among the things that may violate its policy. The Spam page ties this to the purpose of rapidly gaining karma, and Reddiquette says you may post something again if an earlier post did not get the attention it deserved, so repeat posting is judged by purpose and by each community's rules.

What does a crosspost keep, and what can you change?

A repost shows where the content came from. Reddit Help says the post includes an embed of the original post, showing the username of the original poster, the source community and the karma score on the original post. That tells the new community where the content came from while letting them discuss it in their own place.

Part of the postWhat Reddit Help says
Original posterUsername is shown in the embed
Source communityShown in the embed
ScoreThe karma (upvote) score on the original is shown
TitleYou can edit it to suit the target community
FlairYou can add it when you post
Comments and votesNot described; discussion happens in the new community

Reddit's pages do not say whether the original's comments appear in the new community or whether votes on the two posts are combined. We cannot tell you either, so check the repost after you publish it. Reddit says the discussion has a place in the community you repost into, which suggests a fresh thread.

Why does a community not allow crossposts?

A community's moderators choose whether reposts are allowed there. Reddit's Community settings page lists, under Post and comment settings and Allowed posts, a toggle for each type, including Reposts (fka crossposts). Switching it off means users cannot repost into that community.

Reddit's article on reposting says that when a community does not allow reposted content, the option to select that community is greyed out in the picker. We did not find the exact phrase "this community doesn't allow crossposts" on any Reddit Help page, so we cannot confirm which screen shows it or its wording. Treat the greyed-out community as the documented signal.

Two other conditions come from Reddit's pages. You must be a member of the community you are sharing to, and you should check the community's rules first. The same Community settings page notes that moderators can still use certain post types in their own community even when users cannot. Our suggestion: if you think the setting is a mistake, message the moderators, because it is their call.

Can you crosspost to many subreddits without being flagged as spam?

Reddit's repost and Spam pages give no posting limit, so no number guarantees you will not be flagged. What they stress is relevance. Reddit Help tells you to repost only content that is relevant to the community you are posting in, and says reposting randomly in unrelated communities can look spammy and reflect poorly on you and on the community you are reposting from.

Reddit's Spam page defines spam as repeated or unsolicited actions that negatively affect users, communities or Reddit, and the first item in its list of things that may violate the policy is "Mass-posting repetitive content for the purpose of exposure or financial gain." Moderators decide what counts as spam in their own community, so a community's own rules can add to Reddit's.

Two more pointers from Reddit Help:

  • If you promote your own work. The Spam page says that if your contributions are mainly links to a business you run or benefit from, you should be thoughtful about how often you post, or consider Reddit's self-serve advertising.
  • Reddiquette. Reddiquette says to read a community's rules before making a submission, usually in the sidebar. It suggests posting to the most appropriate community, and it mentions cross posting if the content fits more communities. It also describes a 9:1 rule of thumb, meaning only 1 in 10 of your submissions should be your own content, and presents it as a widely used guideline, not a hard limit.

Is sharing a Reddit post on other networks the same thing?

No. The Repost button moves a post between Reddit communities only. Posting the same idea to Instagram, Facebook, X or LinkedIn is a different job, with each network's own limits. We did not read any Reddit Help page about sending a Reddit post out to other networks, so we do not describe one.

If your goal is to publish one message across several networks, see our guide to posting to Instagram and Facebook at the same time, or managing multiple social media accounts.

Can TrackMedia post to Reddit?

TrackMedia's code includes a Reddit connector that publishes a new post into a subreddit you choose, where Reddit is enabled on your account. It does not use Reddit's Repost feature, so it cannot take one subreddit post and crosspost it into another. This is what the code does:

  • Subreddit. The composer's Post to field lists up to 100 subreddits the connected account has joined. If Reddit lists none, or the lookup fails, it becomes a text box where you type the subreddit name.
  • Title. Every Reddit post needs a title, up to 300 characters, set in the Reddit version of your post.
  • Text or link. With a link or one attached media file, the connector submits a link post that points to that link or file address, and the post text is not sent. Without either it submits a text post, with a body up to 40,000 characters.
  • Flair, NSFW and spoiler. The connector can send a flair, and the NSFW and spoiler flags. We did not find a flair field in the web composer, so treat flair as an API-level option.
  • Rejections. Reddit answers some rule failures with a normal response and an error inside it. TrackMedia reads those and shows them as a failed post with a reason, including a rate limit ("you are doing that too much") and a link already submitted to that subreddit.

TrackMedia's Crosspost rules are a separate feature, and they can only watch Bluesky today. They cannot watch a subreddit or a Reddit account. Rules start switched off and in review mode, so copies wait as drafts until you approve them. For one-off posts, see how publishing works in TrackMedia.

Reddit's Spam page lists "Programming a bot that continuously promotes specific products or services within a community or across many communities." among the things that may violate its policy, and says community moderators decide what counts as spam in their own communities. Read each community's rules, and check whether it requires flair, before you schedule anything.

How we checked this

We opened each Reddit Help page below in a browser on October 6, 2026 and copied labels and wording from it. We did not post or repost on a live Reddit account, so we did not see the buttons on screen. Reddit edits these pages often, so check the live page if a label differs.

We could not verify the exact "this community doesn't allow crossposts" message, whether comments or votes carry over to a repost, or Reddit's Rules page on redditinc.com, which our browser could not open. We left those out or labeled them. TrackMedia's behavior comes from its Reddit connector and composer code, read the same day.
