Best time to post on Reddit: find yours

Reddit's Help Center names no best time to post. Its Post insights show views per hour on your own posts, so you can test slots one community at a time.

There is no single best time to post on Reddit, and Reddit's Help Center does not name one. Its Help Center says no one thing guarantees a post gets noticed, so the best time is something you find for the community you post in. What Reddit does give you is Post insights, which shows views per hour for the first 24 hours of your own posts, so you can test two time slots in one community and compare them.

This guide uses only Reddit Help pages, read on October 6, 2026, and no third-party studies or statistics. It covers what Reddit says about timing, which reports show your audience, a test you can run, and what TrackMedia's best-times view can and cannot tell you for Reddit.

Is there a best time to post on Reddit?

Reddit's Help Center does not name one. Its article What can I do to get my posts noticed? says "there isn't any one way to guarantee" a post gets noticed. It lists three things, which are choosing a relevant community, following that community's rules, and reposting to other relevant communities. It gives no day or hour.

Reddit's page Reddit's Approach to Content Recommendations explains why timing can still matter. It says the Hot sort "prioritizes recent posts that have been getting upvotes", that New sorts by the newest posts regardless of upvotes, and that a community page is sorted by Hot by default, though logged-in users can change that default in their settings. Our reading is that recency and upvotes both matter for Hot, but the page gives no formula and no weighting, so we cannot say how much.

What can you see about when a community is active?

For any community, you can see weekly visitors and weekly contributions, and neither is hour-by-hour. Reddit's article Understanding weekly visitors and contributions on Reddit says weekly visitors counts unique users in the past 7 days based on a 28-day rolling average, and weekly contributions counts posts and comments in the past 7 days, excluding removed ones.

The same article says these replaced total subscribers, "online now" and rank size. So, according to that page, community pages no longer show an "online now" number. It also says the new stats appear on community homepages and post pages in the native apps and on the updated reddit.com, not on old.reddit.com.

If you moderate a community, Reddit's Mod Insights page adds trends for community views, unique visits (broken down by platform) and membership growth over the past 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or 12 months. We found no hour-of-day or day-of-week breakdown described on that page.

Where do you see how your own post performs hour by hour?

Click or tap See More Insights beneath a top-level post you made. Reddit's Post & Comment Insights page lists upvotes, comments, shares, reposts and awards, plus views with "a graph of views-per-hour over the post's first 24h". The page does not say which clock or time zone the graph uses, so write down the time you posted yourself.

The Reddit Pro row comes from Reddit Pro Feature: Performance. Reddit's What is Reddit Pro? says Reddit Pro is a free suite of tools, currently in beta, for eligible businesses and organizations. We did not check the eligibility rules, so confirm them before you plan around it.

How do you test your best time to post on Reddit?

Pick two slots, post comparable posts in one community at each, and compare views at the same age. Reddit gives no testing method, so these steps are ours, built on reports Reddit documents.

Four-step flow for finding your best time to post on Reddit: 1 choose one community; 2 pick two weekday-and-hour slots, post the same kind of post, alternate the slots and write down the time; 3 open See More Insights under each post and read views at the same age, such as 24 hours; 4 keep a slot that wins more than once. A note says Reddit Help names no best time, hides votes for the first few hours after a post is created, and shows no hour-by-hour community activity stat on the pages we read.
A way to test posting times with Reddit's own Post insights. Reddit Help names no universal best time.
  1. Stay in one community. Reddit's page on getting noticed says the best community for a post helps it get more attention, and each community has its own rules and audience. Check the rules first, and see our guide to crossposting on Reddit for Reddit's spam and Reddiquette pages before you post often.
  2. Choose two slots. Reddit shows non-moderators no hourly community chart on the pages we read, so your first two slots are guesses. Use the community's New sort to see when others post and its weekly contributions to see how busy it is, then pick two different weekday-and-hour combinations in your own time zone.
  3. Keep the posts alike and alternate. Use one post type, such as text or link, and swap between the slots. A single post proves little, because the topic and title can matter more than the hour.
  4. Read every post at the same age. Reddit's page on hidden vote counts says votes are not displayed for the first few hours after a post is created, and some communities hide them for a short time. Compare views at one fixed age, such as 24 hours, not upvotes in the first hours.
  5. Keep what repeats. If one slot wins more than once, keep it and test a new challenger. If the two overlap, you have no evidence yet that the hour matters in that community.

For example, post three comparable text posts on Tuesday mornings and three on Saturday evenings in the same community, record each post's views at 24 hours, and compare the two groups. Overlapping numbers mean you have not found a difference. The same approach works on other networks, as in our guides to the best day to post on Instagram and the best time to post on Pinterest.

Can you schedule a Reddit post for your test slot?

Reddit documents scheduling for moderators. Its Scheduled and Recurring Posts page says moderators with Manage Posts & Comments permission can create scheduled posts by clicking the clock icon next to Post in the post creation flow. It says image and video scheduled posts are currently unavailable and the feature is only fully available on reddit.com.

That page is about a community's moderators. We did not find a Reddit Help page that describes scheduling a post into a community you do not moderate, so we make no claim about it.

How does TrackMedia help you find your best time?

TrackMedia's Best times tab on the Analytics page averages engagement by publish hour from your own posts. TrackMedia's code includes a Reddit connector, and it can read each post's upvotes, comments and upvote ratio from Reddit and list an account's existing submissions to import. Here is what the view does, read from the code on October 6, 2026:

  • Draws a weekday-by-hour grid titled "When your posts land best", in your workspace's time zone, from posts that went out in the date range you pick, including posts you imported. A network filter narrows it to Reddit and an account filter to one account.
  • Ranks only slots with enough posts. "Your strongest slots" lists only slots with at least 3 posts. Slots with fewer are shown greyed, and their tooltip says too few to rank.
  • Suggests times in the composer. When you schedule in TrackMedia's composer, slots that passed that bar over the last 90 days appear as up to two quick picks that start with "Best" and show the weekday and time.

What TrackMedia cannot tell you for Reddit

  • No community filter. The filters are network and account, not subreddit. A Reddit account that posts to a large and a small community gets one blended grid, and upvote counts in those communities are not comparable.
  • No engagement rate. The Reddit connector reports upvotes, comments and upvote ratio, but no impressions or views. Where a rate would go, the view shows "Not reported" or "No rate reported". The "Your strongest slots" list is then ordered by average upvotes plus comments per post, but that average is not displayed, and the heatmap shades only by rate, so every Reddit slot that clears the minimum gets the same shade. You can see which slots rank first and how many posts are behind them, not how much better one is.
  • Posts without numbers still count. A post with no metric snapshot yet counts as a post with zero engagement, which pulls its slot's average down.
  • It does not read Post insights. TrackMedia does not show the views-per-hour graph, so use Reddit's own page for views.
  • The quick picks are not Reddit-specific. The composer's "Best" chips use every post in the workspace, not only Reddit posts.

Read the grid as a record of your own posts, and keep your community-by-community test from Reddit's reports as the real evidence. If you handle several Reddit accounts or other networks, our guide to managing multiple social media accounts shows how to keep them organized, and you can start free with TrackMedia to plan and review your test posts in one place.

How we checked this

We opened each Reddit Help page below in a browser on October 6, 2026 and copied labels and wording from it. We did not post to or test anything on a live Reddit account, so the testing steps are our method, not Reddit's.

What we could not verify: any Reddit-recommended day or hour, which time zone the views-per-hour graph uses, whether Post insights is available for every post type or community, the Reddit Pro eligibility rules, whether a member can schedule a post in a community they do not moderate, and whether Reddit's Hot sort weights early upvotes more than later ones. We make no claim on those. TrackMedia's behavior comes from the Best times panel and heatmap (apps/web/src/features/analytics/components/best-times-panel.tsx and best-times-heatmap.tsx), the grid and ranking code (apps/api/src/modules/analytics/best-times.mapper.ts and best-times.repository.ts), the 3-post minimum in packages/core/src/schemas/best-times.schema.ts, the composer quick picks (apps/web/src/features/compose/hooks/use-best-slots.ts) and the Reddit metrics in packages/connectors/src/reddit/reddit.metrics.ts, read the same day. We did not run it against a live Reddit account.
