How to get more views on TikTok, per TikTok

To get more views on TikTok, make videos people finish and interact with. TikTok says its For You feed ranks videos by predicted interest, not follower count.

To get more views on TikTok, make videos that people watch to the end and react to, because TikTok says its For You feed ranks videos by how likely each viewer is to interact with them. TikTok also says follower count and past hits are not direct factors, so a new account can reach people.

This guide sticks to what TikTok itself publishes. It uses TikTok's Creator Academy article "Decoding TikTok's Recommendation System" (last updated June 15, 2026), its recommendation-system page and its newsroom post, all read on October 22, 2026. It covers what the feed looks at, eight things to do, why a video can stall, and how to track the results.

How TikTok decides who sees your video

TikTok's Creator Academy explains the For You feed in one idea: every time someone likes, comments or shares, the system uses that feedback to create a prediction score for different content, estimating how likely the person is to interact with each video. The videos with the highest scores are served on that person's For You feed.

The same article lists what the system pays attention to: the content you create, the accounts you follow, video information including captions, sounds and hashtags, location and language settings, and your device type. It says these factors are weighted by value, for example "if you finish a video, it's a strong indicator of your interest".

TikTok's recommendation-system page adds more detail about the video itself. The signals it lists include the time the video was posted, the author's language setting, the soundtrack, the video's length and the hashtags associated with the video. TikTok's newsroom post is explicit about what does not count directly: neither follower count nor whether the account has had previous high-performing videos are direct factors.

Three columns showing what TikTok says feeds its recommendations. Viewer signals: videos viewed, liked or shared, finished or skipped, accounts followed. Video signals: captions, sounds, hashtags, length, posted time, language. Not direct factors: follower count and previous high-performing videos.

How to get more views on TikTok: eight things to do

TikTok does not publish a formula, so none of these promises a number of views. Each one follows from something TikTok says in the pages above.

  1. Make people finish the video. Finishing is TikTok's own example of a strong signal. Put the point in the first seconds, cut anything that does not earn its place, and keep the length no longer than the idea needs. Length is one of the video signals TikTok lists.
  2. Know your audience. The Creator Academy tip is to identify your audience's interests and build "fandom-first" content around specific topics, characters, personalities or titles. Narrow topics give the system a clearer idea of who might like the video.
  3. Use the tools that start a conversation. Creator Academy names Duet and Reply with Video as ways to engage with videos in your fandom, reach additional audiences and make content that feels native to the app.
  4. Read your own analytics. TikTok says to review your analytics and check your watch time and finish rate, then look for patterns in videos that did well and those that did not. Our guide to checking TikTok analytics shows where those numbers are.
  5. Stand out, even inside a trend. TikTok says that to keep a feed diverse its system measures content similarity, and that if a person sees too many videos with the same sound it switches some out. Its tips are to be early to a trend, add your own style and use your own perspective.
  6. Write a clear caption, with sounds and hashtags that fit. Captions, sounds and hashtags are listed as video information. TikTok does not say how much weight hashtags carry, so treat them as labels that describe the video, not as a boost.
  7. Reply to the people who engage. Interactions are the feedback the system learns from, and replies keep a conversation going. TikTok does not publish a figure for how much comments count.
  8. Keep going and compare. TikTok publishes no timeline, so judge by trend: are your finish rates and views per video rising over a month of posts of the same kind?

A simple four-week test plan

Because TikTok publishes no formula, test. Keep it small enough to finish:

  1. Week 1. Post your usual videos and note views, watch time and finish rate for each in TikTok's analytics.
  2. Week 2. Change only the first seconds of each video, such as opening with the result.
  3. Week 3. Change only the topic focus, narrowing it to one audience interest.
  4. Week 4. Compare the three weeks. Keep what raised finish rate, drop what did not.

Changing one thing at a time is what lets you say which change worked.

Why your TikTok views may be low

TikTok's pages list a few reasons a video does not travel, apart from the content not landing:

  • Not eligible for the For You feed. Creator Academy says some content may be allowed on the platform but not eligible for the For You feed. TikTok's recommendation page says only videos that pass moderation are in the pool that can be recommended, and that content from an account under 16 is not eligible. TikTok's newsroom adds that a video that has just been uploaded or is under review, and spam, may be ineligible.
  • Too similar to what viewers already saw. The content similarity measure above.
  • Weak early viewing. Because finishing a video is a strong signal, a video people abandon quickly is likely to be passed over. TikTok does not state a cutoff.
  • A narrow or unclear topic. If the system cannot tell who the video is for, it has less to go on.

Beware of claims about posting volume or a magic hashtag. TikTok's pages we read do not address how many videos to post, how long a video can be recommended, or how new videos are tested.

Write down each result as you go, even if it is only a line in a spreadsheet. After a month you will have a record of which opening, topic and length gave you the best finish rates. That record is worth more than any outside benchmark, because it describes your own audience.

Does the time you post matter?

The posting time is listed as a video signal on TikTok's recommendation page, but TikTok does not say how much it counts. Use your own data. Our guide to the best time to post on TikTok explains how to find your times, and our guide on whether scheduling affects TikTok views found no TikTok statement that a scheduled video gets fewer or more views.

How TrackMedia helps you get more TikTok views

TrackMedia gives you a way to apply step 4, learning from your own numbers, without checking each app. It publishes to TikTok along with 20 other networks from one composer, with preflight checks on the video before it goes out, and it keeps a calendar and posting queues, so you can post at steady times without being at your phone.

Its analytics pull in TikTok's post metrics, views, likes, comments, shares and an engagement rate, next to every other network, including videos you did not publish with TrackMedia. A "Best times" view built from your own posts shows when your TikTok posts did best, and you can use it to choose your queue slots.

If you send viewers to a page, TrackMedia tracks the link in real time with UTM tags, so you see clicks, visitors and referrers per post. Our guide to putting a link in your TikTok bio covers where to put it. To reuse a good TikTok on other networks, see Instagram Reels vs TikTok. Start free with TrackMedia: 15 posts a month, no card.

Questions people also ask

How do you get more views on TikTok fast?

There is no documented shortcut. TikTok's advice is to make videos people finish, engage with your niche, read your watch time and finish rate, and stand out from similar videos.

Do hashtags get you more views on TikTok?

TikTok lists hashtags as part of a video's information, along with captions and sounds. It does not say how much weight they carry.

Do followers affect TikTok views?

TikTok says follower count is not a direct factor in its recommendations. A larger account can still get more views because it has a larger audience to start from.

How often should I post on TikTok?

TikTok's pages we read do not give a number. Choose a rhythm you can keep and compare results.

Why is my TikTok video stuck at low views?

It may be ineligible for the For You feed, still under review, too similar to other videos, or not holding viewers. Check your finish rate in analytics first.
